Everting an eyelid

Equipment

  • Binocular 2.5× Loupe
  • Torch/flashlight
  • Follicle size guides

  • Fulcrum

    The fulcrum can be any of the following:

    • Finger
    • Cotton tipped applicator
    • Pen
    • Stick
    • Glass rod.

It is important to use both appropriate magnification and lighting to accurately examine an eyelid.

During examinations observe appropriate levels of care to avoid transmission of infection; wash hands with soap and water or use of alcohol hand wipes. Note that wearing gloves makes the procedure much more difficult and provides little advantage.
