Introduction

Targets for elimination

The Australian targets for trachoma elimination are TF (the early stage Trachomatous Follicular) <5% in children under 10 years and a rate of TT (the late stage Trachomatous Trichiasis), <0.2% in those 15 years and above.

The goal is to not totally eliminate chlamydial eye infection or trachoma, but to eliminate trachoma as a public health problem. This goal aims for rates of reinfections and clinical disease at such low levels, that it can’t take hold in a population.
